Read: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

1 Corinthians 9:24-27  Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway

MEMORISE

Not that I have arrived or am already perfected, but I press on in order to grasp that which Christ Jesus has also grasped (Philippians 3:12).

EXPOSITION

Every dedicated athlete has one goal in mind: to win the competition. To win the reward, he wants to go above and beyond regular participation. The delight of holding the trophy is palpable. It’s the result of a lot of hard effort and careful planning. The prize and joy of victory much outweigh the hardships of preparation. A goal-oriented man runs with the prize/trophy in mind. This is the mark of a champion.

Nobody succeeds by chance. Winning necessitates a combination of active and systematic endurance. Purpose and discipline are required to win a race. We are rushing to our heavenly abode in order to receive our heavenly blessings. If you don’t have the necessary internal strength — the Holy Spirit – you won’t be able to run efficiently. Internal strength is provided to us through prayer, Bible study, and worship. These help us run with vigour and endurance. Don’t make light of them. They are the spiritual vitality that propels us to the finish line. Train hard and consistently, rather than jogging once in a while. We’re running for a reason; we’re not just running for the sake of running. With a winning mindset, run your God-given vision.

An athlete who wins the trophy will follow all of the competition’s rules. He’d be disqualified if he didn’t. We must be cautious not to stray from the path. In the life of a winner, self-discipline and self-control are crucial. He will not give up until the competition is over. Nothing can keep him from achieving his goals. He is aware of potential distractions and roadblocks, but he does not allow them to detract from the benefits of careful planning. Every believer is on his or her way to heaven. To arrive securely at our destination, we must be wary of the devil, flesh, and the world’s pleasures. Even as you go about your daily routine, dare to commit to your heart the reward that awaits you in paradise.
